Hindustani Classical Vocalist
Padma Bhushan Pandit Chhannulal Mishra, born in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, began learning music from his father Pt. Badri Prasad Mishra. He went on to learn Hindustani Classical Music from Ustad Abdul Ghani Khan and was later taken as a disciple by Thakur Jaidev Singh.
He is a noted exponent of the Kirana gharana as well as the Patiala gharana and has transcended the confines of each style of singing Hindustani Classical.
His classical pieces are a magnificent harmony of the Punjab, Purab and Gaya styles. He has recorded albums that have his famous recitations of Tulidas’s Ramayan, Kabir, and ragas like Chaiti, Thumri, Kajri that are a pure delight for the soul.
Pandit Chhannulal Mishra performs regularly in India and abroad and also teaches enthusiastic followers of Hindustani classical in Varanasi.
