Hariharan

Singer

If we were to pick an Indian voice that has spoken the complicated language of ghazal in a fluid, mellifluous style, while introducing raagdari and sometimes even African beats into it, Hariharan’s is the only one that pops in mine. Padma Shri awardee, the musician is known to have broken the barriers of musical genres and pioneered the idea of fusion outside the classical format. He also managed to make waves in the popular music segment. A Science and Law graduate who inherited the legacy of his Carnatic vocalist mother Shrimati Alamelu and late father Anantha Subramani Iyer, Hariharan’s ghazal concerts are known to showcase a wide variety of emotions.
